Job description

The Gas Turbine Compressor Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the monitoring, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of Turbo Compressors, with a particular focus on Solar Turbo Compressor assemblies. This role ensures maximum uptime of the turbo compressor assuring all maintenance activities are carried out efficiently, safely, timely, and in compliance with Company and industry standards and regulations. The specialist will work closely with other Company maintenance staff and with Vendors representatives to maintain optimal performance of Turbo Compressors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities

Is responsible for the proper functionality of Gas Turbine Compressor Package (including auxiliary systems, such as lubrication oil system, fuel gas supply system, instruments air system, seal gas system, filter structure, starting motor and gearbox, pumps, coolers, and valves).

Inspection and Maintenance

  • Provide oversight and guidance to optimize preventive, predictive, and performance monitoring programs and practices for Solar gas turbine/compressor packages.
  • Maximize uptime of the turbo compressor by performing adequate and timely monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Perform routine and preventive, corrective maintenance on turbo compressors, specifically Solar turbine compressors.
  • Inspect compressors for wear, damage, and other potential issues.
  • Preparation, monitoring and execution of regular compressor shutdowns for maintenance.
  • Planning and organization of routine and periodical maintenance activities.
  • Preparation of monthly and annually Compressor maintenance schedules
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are documented accurately and timely.

Troubleshooting and Repair

  • Conduct troubleshooting and support timely resolution of Solar gas turbine/compressor package equipment issues, failed starts, alarms, and shutdowns through advanced interpretation of trend data, log file reports, drawings/schematics, piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs), control logic, and ability to interface with the Solar Turbotronic controls system.
  • Provide advanced technical assistance for the prompt resolution and efficient troubleshooting of operational, maintenance, controls, and performance issues of compression equipment and auxiliaries, with primary emphasis on gas turbine/compressor packages and equipment manufactured by Solar Turbines, Inc.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, instrumentation and electrical issues with gas turbine compressors, with support from maintenance team.
  • Repair or replace defective parts and components.
  • Perform emergency repairs as needed to minimize downtime.

Performance Monitoring

  • Daily monitoring of the compressor parameters and performances.
  • Monitor the performance of gas turbine compressors to ensure efficient operation.
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to detect and resolve issues (Equipment Health Monitoring System).
  • Record, analyze and report functional and operational data to identify trends and potential problems.
  • Analyse and manage of the spare parts and special tools assuring availability at all times.

Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Participate in safety training and drills.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Permanent contact with Solar representative, through Equipment Health Monitoring System Contract.
  • Responsible to monitor and maintain the link with Equipment Health Monitoring System and relevant assigned engineers from Solar.
  • Work closely with other maintenance staff, engineers, and plant operators.
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding maintenance activities and findings.
  • Provide technical support and guidance as needed.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION

Technical knowledge 

  • University studies completed in the field of mechanical/electrical engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge of gas turbine/compressor fundamentals, operations, maintenance, control schemes, protective devices/systems, including all associated auxiliary equipment. Knowledgeable with compressor station operations, maintenance, and reciprocating compression equipment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair of gas turbine compressors or similar equipment.
  • Specific experience with Solar turbine compressors is highly desirable.
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and software for gas turbine compressors.

Abilities

  • Ability to use and interpret drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, controls logic, technical data, and similar documentation.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment effectively.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and parts.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (hot, cold, noisy).
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Adaptability and flexibility in integrating and implementing changes in one’s own activity and/or in the organization.
